The bay has assumed an important position in Vietnamese legend for many centuries however and continues to capture the imagination of visitors.
Spend the day visiting Tian An Men Square, the large plaza near the centre of Beijing and named after the Tiananmen or Gates of Heavenly Peace to the north separating it from the Forbidden City which, at 100 acres, makes it the world’s largest open urban square and where several key events in Chinese history took place. Enter the home of China’s former emperors, the Forbidden City, which for centuries have been closed to the public.
